Woman sentenced to 3 months in jail for leaving friend to die in Southfield road

FOX 2, Southfield, Mich.On Friday, a woman who received her sentence last year was informed.

The Kentia In relation to Mia Kanu’s death, Wayne resident Monique Fearn, 24, was given a sentence of three years of probation and three months in the Oakland County Jail.

Authorities say that on June 3, 2023, Fearn was driving on Providence Drive after leaving a party when Kanu, 23, jumped out of the car. Instead of stopping and telling the police what had transpired, Fearn allegedly fled the area.

A bystander discovered Kanu in the road close to Coach Apartments. After being brought to a hospital, she passed just a few days later.

Months later, Fearn was taken into custody and accused of driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of a fatal collision. In October, she was charged with same accusations.
