FOX 2, Detroit, Mich.A wrong-way motorist collision on I-96 close to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. claimed a woman’s life and injured several others.
We know:
911 callers reported a driver going east in the westbound lanes of I-96 on January 12 at approximately 3:15 a.m. A report of a head-on collision near Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. was received as troopers were being sent to the scene.
When troopers arrived on the scene, they noticed a dark SUV and a sedan that had been in an accident. There was significant front-end damage to both cars.
Six people in the SUV received first assistance from troopers. For medical care, they were all taken to nearby hospitals.
The at-fault sedan’s driver was declared dead at the site.
“Troopers are currently investigating this crash on scene and attempting to determine how the driver entered the freeway in the wrong direction.” saidMSP Lt. Mike Shaw. “They will also need to wait on medical examiner reports to see if the driver was impaired or had a medical condition.”
The freeway has reopened after being closed for five hours while the inquiry was underway.
