Yellow Door Art Market in Berkley closing after 14 years in business

After operating for over ten years, Berkley’s Yellow Door Art Market is set to end.

(FOX 2):After operating for over ten years, a small market in downtown Berkley is closing.

Artists from all across Michigan have been able to offer their crafts at the Yellow Door Art Market. Officially, they will close on January 18.

The market’s proprietors announced their departure, claiming that the most recent lease they were presented was too costly and would pose too many challenges for the local artists who sell their wares there.

We’ve had some challenging talks and talked about tough decisions as a result of this unpleasant reality. We acknowledge that this is very sad news, and please know that we did not make this decision lightly,” they added.

After a productive 2010 chat that would lead to 14 years of business, The Yellow Door was born. Eventually, it developed into a place where regional artists could sell a variety of goods.

Many are giving discounts in the last days of business after informing their vendors of the news.

They will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The proprietors of Catching Fireflies, a nearby store, will continue to operate, nevertheless. Until the lease expires, operations will relocate to the Yellow Door Space in an effort to keep that business open.

In the interim, they plan to renovate the structure in the aim of sustaining commerce for years to come.
