‘You gonna die’: Video shows Detroit police-involved shooting that ended with officer being dragged by car

Police revealed multiple camera perspectives of the events leading up to an officer being dragged by a car in DETROIT (FOX 2).
According to Detroit Police Capt. Shaun Dunning, Special Operations Unit officers were on patrol on St. Mary’s, near Seven Mile, at around 11:40 p.m. on December 11, 2024, when they noticed a car obstructing a sidewalk.

The events leading up to the officer-involved shooting on the west side last month were captured on body and dash cam film that Detroit police recently made public. He struck an officer and pulled him with his vehicle after a suspect was shot.
We know:
The cops are seen on police cruiser dashcam footage pulling into the driveway to stop the automobile that was pulled into it. After turning on their emergency lights and directing the cruiser’s spotlight toward the automobile, the police reportedly got out and walked toward the car while brandishing their pistols, according to Dunning.
“Both the subjects are reaching down toward their legs in the center console area,” Dunning stated. “The subjects were ordered multiple times to raise their hands immediately.”
Three officers can be heard shouting at the couple in the car in body cam footage. They can be heard being told to raise their hands by officers.
One of the officers can be heard saying, “You’re going to die.”
At one point, the motorist backed up and collided with another car parked in the driveway, according to Dunning.
An cop shouted, “Put your hands up, you’re going to get shot,” as the motorist retreated.
The driver then steered the car in the direction of Officer A, who DPD designated as the officer in front of the car.

One officer can be heard stating, “I’m gonna (expletive) shoot you,” before Officer A fired several shots through the windshield, but it’s hard to tell who is saying what amid the confusion of officers shouting.
After being hit in the chest, the motorist continued to drive, slamming into and dragging Officer A. The rear of the car was shot at by another cop, who was identified as cop B.
After continuing to run, the 18-year-old driver got out of the vehicle a few blocks away and dialed 911.
After responding to the scene and tending to his injuries, officers transported him to a hospital, where he received treatment and was subsequently released. Later, the fugitive passenger turned himself in to the police.
The driver and his 17-year-old passenger may have been linked with a gang, according to Detroit police. That information was left out of the most recent media briefing, though.
According to Jessica Dupnack, the second traveler surrendered himself to the authorities on Wednesday at approximately 2:00 p.m.
The traveler was freed while additional research was conducted.
What is unknown to us:
During a media conference, DPD legal advisor 2nd Deputy Chief Grant Ha outlined the various leave options available to officers in the event of a use of force incident. What kind of leave, if any, the involved police received is unclear, though.
Next steps:
Michigan State members comprise a Homicide Task Force. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Detroit police will look into the matter. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office will get their finished investigative report and decide whether criminal charges are necessary.
To ascertain if the officers’ actions were consistent with their departmental regulations and training, an administrative review is also being carried out.
The cops may face disciplinary action if it is found that they broke the rules.
