Lucas, a 4-year-old Labrador retriever mix, has spent an astonishing 500 days at the Great Plains SPCA in Kansas City, making him the shelter’s longest resident. As of Tuesday, Lucas marked this milestone, still hopeful to find a loving forever home.
Described as “housebroken, crate-trained, wonderful on leash, and a snuggle enthusiast,” Lucas has many qualities that make him a fantastic companion. However, he needs to be the only pet in his future home, which has made his search for the perfect match a bit more challenging.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the Great Plains SPCA highlighted Lucas’s affectionate nature: “I’m 84 pounds of love that wants nothing more than to snuggle up with my best friend on the couch.” Despite his long stay, Lucas’s spirit remains unbroken, and the shelter staff continues to advocate for him, knowing he has a lot of love to give.
