Two Teens to Be Tried as Adults in Fatal Sanford Shooting Over Headphones

Two teenagers, Dra’shawn Williams, 15, and William Smith, 17, have been indicted on charges of first-degree murder and attempted robbery in connection with the tragic shooting of Brandon Leo in Sanford, Florida. The incident occurred on July 20, when Leo, 22, was attempting to sell a pair of headphones, and was senselessly killed during the transaction.

Sanford police responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. regarding shots fired near West 3rd Street and Pomegranate Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Leo’s body in a partially submerged pickup truck in a retention pond. According to police reports, Leo had driven to the location to complete the sale of the headphones, but as he began reversing his truck out of the driveway, two individuals approached, and several gunshots were fired.

Both suspects, Williams and Smith, were apprehended in August—Williams on the 21st and Smith on the 27th. Due to the severity of the crime, both teens will be tried as adults. The indictment by a Seminole County grand jury has intensified the legal proceedings, with authorities labeling the shooting as “senseless.” For more details about the indictment, visit Click Orlando.
