Orlando Neighborhood on High Alert After Deadly Dog Attacks on Cats
Residents of an east Orlando neighborhood are deeply concerned after two dogs, a pit bull and a Rottweiler, have attacked at least six cats in recent days, resulting in the deaths of four of them. The area between Goldenrod and Union Park, once known for its tranquility, has been shaken by these distressing events.
Richard Ramirez, a long-time resident, expressed his shock, stating, “I was in shock. I’ve been here nine years, and this has never happened.” Residents have shared several videos capturing the frightening scenes of the two dogs aggressively pursuing and attacking cats.
Heather Whitemore’s cat was among the casualties. She described the severe injuries her pet sustained, including broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, a punctured stomach, and broken teeth. The estimated $12,000 treatment cost led her to make the difficult decision to euthanize her cat. “One dog pulled him out and started shaking him like a toy,” Whitemore recounted, showing footage of the attack.
Ramirez also experienced a close call when the dogs attempted to enter his home through a screen door. “They tried coming in through here, and I was able to shoo them away,” he said.
The neighborhood is rallying for action, with residents calling for either humane euthanasia or removal of the aggressive dogs. “We need to see some sort of action,” said Whitemore.
