New Jersey Police Says To Urged to Reserve 911 for Urgent Matters After Earthquake
THE FREEHOLD, NJ — A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit New Jersey, and now thousands of people all over the state are calling 911.
In Monmouth County and other places, emergency lines are very busy with calls about the earthquake, according to officials.
Officials say there was an earthquake, but they ask that you don’t call 911 to report it unless you have an emergency. There are too many calls on the lines, which could cause delays if a real emergency call is missed.

“All operations at the #MCSONJ are running smoothly after an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 that shook NJ and beyond,” said Shaun Golden, sheriff of Monmouth County.
“Reports that the MCSO’s 911 Communications Center is getting a lot of calls because of this.” Calling 9-1-1 should only be done in an emergency.
