Serrano Glassner stepping down in Mendham to take Trump admin position

In a letter to Mendham residents today, Christine Serrano Glassner stated that she is leaving her position as mayor of Mendham Borough to accept a position in the second Donald Trump administration.

“I write to my Mendham Borough community today to inform you that I resigned from my position as Mayor,” Serrano Glassner stated, expressing a range of emotions. I wanted to let you know that my service is not ended because I was given and accepted a job opportunity at the White House. I am grateful for the chance to serve our country once more, and I swear to apply the same commitment and empathy to my new position as I did every day in our charming community.

A person close to Serrano Glassner told the New Jersey Globe that she had accepted a senior-level position, but they were not allowed to reveal any other details.

Through her husband, Michael Glassner, a longtime Trump associate who served as the chief operational officer of Trump’s 2020 campaign, Serrano Glassner, a Republican who was first elected mayor in 2018 after previously sitting on the borough council, has had tight ties to Trump’s inner circle.

Serrano Glassner used those connections to secure Trump’s endorsement during her U.S. Senate campaign last year. However, Curtis Bashaw, a more moderate hotelier, was favored by the majority of local party officials in New Jersey. He won the GOP primary by a margin of 45% to 38%, but lost the general election to Democrat Andy Kim.

Mendham, a traditional Republican stronghold that has recently shifted toward Democrats, will also see a special election this year as a result of Serrano Glassner’s departure for the Trump administration, even if Republicans still hold a majority at the municipal level.
