Shocking Road Tragedy! 87-year-old Man Fatally Injured in Egg Harbor Township Collision

Jose Catalan, who was 87 years old, passed away as a result of the collision that occurred on Monday, May 6 near the junction of Delaware and Fernwood avenues, according to a press statement issued by the Egg Harbor Township Police Department. Officers arrived at the scene of the accident at approximately 2:43 in the morning.

He was driving a 2006 Toyota RAV4 west on Delaware Avenue when he reached the intersection, according to the investigators. The man was 19 years old. A stop sign was positioned in the southbound lane of Fernwood Avenue, and Catalan was driving a Toyota Camry from the year 2010.

In the process of crossing Delaware, the Camry entered the intersection, and the RAV4 struck it on the driver’s side. Both Toyotas were thrown off the road and spun out of control as a result of the incident.

An 83-year-old woman who was in Catalan’s automobile was sent to Cooper University Hospital with major injuries after he was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. Despite experiencing chest trouble, the driver of the SUV was not sent to a hospital for treatment.

To accommodate first responders who were at the scene of the accident, traffic was diverted for approximately four hours. Additional assistance was provided at the scene by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, paramedics from Egg Harbor Township and AtlantiCare, as well as firefighters from Scullville and Bargaintown.
