HEART-WRENCHING NEWS! Illinois Teacher Killed by Ex-Husband in Murder-Suicide, Leaving 3 Children Orphaned

On May 29, an Illinois second-grade teacher and her ex-husband were discovered dead in her house in Normal, Illinois, following an apparent murder-suicide.

According to a news release from the Normal Police Department, preliminary information indicates that Matthew Moore, 46, illegally entered Amy Moore’s residence in the early morning. Moore “confronted the victim and shot [her] multiple times” before “died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to the announcement.

Following the murder-suicide, WGLT, Illinois’ local NPR network, reported that the tragedy left the former couple’s three sons — ages 12, 11, and 7 — without parents and that Amy Moore’s older brother, Thomas Burns, launched a GoFundMe appeal on May 31 to help the children.

As of June 7, the fundraising was very close to its $400,000 objective.

“That response is such a testament to Bloomington-Normal and the surrounding areas,” Burns stated to WGLT on June 2. “It’s really unbelievable. I don’t think you’d find this anywhere else.

Burns also revealed to WGLT that Amy Moore was “essentially a single mother at the end of her life, working full-time, living paycheck to paycheck.”

On May 30, WGLT announced that Amy and Matthew were split. According to the publication, Amy sought orders of protection against Matthew as part of the divorce papers.

“There were many red flags, many phone calls, many trips to lawyers to try and address this,” Burns stated to WGLT. “I believe the entire system let her down. Given the number of events that have occurred over the years, they should never have been in the same room at the same time. “That should not have happened.”
