Authorities: As part of the “largest gun trafficking case” in Orange County history, dozens of individuals were apprehended during raids
DEBARYLIFE – As part of the “largest gun trafficking case in county history,” prosecutors claim they apprehended over 20 individuals on Tuesday after a series of searches.
According to internet documents, ten individuals were arraigned and are currently being held at Orange County Jail. They are allegedly involved in a conspiracy to sell drugs and firearms together.
According to officials, the arrests were a part of planned raids that took place around Orange County.
A viewer alerted News 12 to the action early on Tuesday morning, stating that agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms had been seen setting up a staging area near the Dan Leghorn Fire Department in the Town of Newburgh.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office quickly released a statement stating that deputies were carrying out search warrants all day long in conjunction with federal, state, and local authorities.
Viewers of News 12 report seeing a big contingent of law officers on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Squire Village apartments in New Windsor. Some reported witnessing raids on Fullerton Avenue and City Terrace in the City of Newburgh.
At the trial, prosecutors stated that Andre Smith, one of the suspects, was apprehended at John F. Kennedy International Airport while attempting to flee.
At least twenty people were apprehended, according to the authorities, and numerous firearms, narcotics, and vehicles were taken into custody. More arrests, so they say, are imminent.
“Remove the weapons from public areas.” We need it, a man in Newburgh told News 12 in an interview.
