Church Vandalism in Irwin: Youths Suspected of Damaging Sacred Instruments at Local Church
IRWIN, PA. – Late last week, a church in Westmoreland County was vandalized, and the church is currently seeking assistance in identifying the juveniles who were responsible for the damage.
Two youths entered the choir loft of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin on Friday and tampered with the organ and sound system, according to Father John Moineau, who also uploaded photographs and videos on social media. He stated that the incident occurred on Friday.
The church was unable to use the organ for the first two Holy Communion masses that were held the following morning as a direct result of the vandalism that occurred.
“It was an important sacramental day for our parish and the children and their families were affected by the two teenager’s actions,” Father Moineau wrote on his own Facebook page. “All churches are sacred places which should be treated with respect.”
Right now, the church is requesting assistance in identifying the two adolescents, and they have stated that they will provide the information to the Irwin Police Department.
Messages should be sent to the church on Facebook or the parish office at 724-863-9550 if anyone has any information that could assist in identifying the teenagers.
