Dangerous Conditions: 8-Foot Waves Anticipated at Chicago Beaches Amid Thunderstorm Forecast
Chicago, Illinois – Strong onshore winds caused by a cold front are forecast to create big waves and dangerous currents at Chicago beaches from this evening through Monday night, making swimming conditions dangerous.
The National Weather Service reports that waves on Lake Michigan’s southern coasts may quickly increase to 4 to 8 feet tonight, posing a risk to human life.
It is advised that beachgoers observe posted notices and closures and avoid going into the sea. It is predicted that the dangerous circumstances will last through Monday night and then improve by Tuesday morning.

Showers and thunderstorms are predicted to arrive around Wednesday night and last through Thursday. By Thursday, highs will reach 81° to 90°F, with a 30% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
