Elderly Residents Take Stand Against Burglaries With Neighborhood Watch Here
DEBARYLIFE – The cheap senior housing neighborhood Arioso Senior Apartments, located in the southwest valley at Blue Diamond Road and Quarterhorse Lane, is experiencing a slight reduction in vehicle break-ins, which has given residents a bit more peace of mind.
After they reported over a dozen car break-ins in three months, Channel 13 met with residents of that community on January 29.
According to residents who spoke with Channel 13, their difficulties essentially vanished after a neighborhood watch program was established.
Two-year tenant of Arioso Senior Apartment Tim Barber remarked, “I’m impressed because there haven’t been any break-ins, as far as I can tell.”
Residents claimed that between October 16 and January 29, 16 more cars were broken into and two were stolen prior to neighborhood watch.
Neighborhood watch coordinator Rev. Vickie Caldwell stated, “There was a time when broken glass from our windows covered our parking lot.”
According to Caldwell, the neighborhood’s fourteen captains collaborate to keep an eye on the land where they all reside and abide by these basic guidelines.

“Observe something, communicate something, take action,” Caldwell advised.
Metro Police is also keeping a watchful eye on things in addition to the locals.
“They still do come in, drop through to see what’s going on, because we are part of neighborhood watch,” Caldwell stated.
The neighborhood watch division of Metro has assigned cops to assist with initiatives such as the one these seniors have set up.
According to what they informed Channel 13, the first neighborhood watch meeting was held two months ago at the Arioso Senior Apartments.
Although there isn’t an entry gate at the compound, it is secured by brick walls and a blocked entryway.
To defend the neighborhood, residents stated they are roaming around the complex around the clock in the role of security guards.
“Thieves are weak; they’re going to take off if they see something out of the ordinary, which is us being out there at three in the morning,” a neighborhood watch member named Cowboy said.
More than ten unfamiliar cars turned away after spotting someone in front of the complex, leading residents to believe that their efforts had been successful.
They assured me that they would keep this complex safe.
Karol Davis, an Arioso resident of four months, remarked, “The jokes on you because we are going to do something about it.”
Wayne Jackson, the captain of the neighborhood watch, declared, “I will protect myself and help anyone else if necessary.”
Managers and residents of the complex stated that they are collaborating to keep the number of break-ins low.
Residents stated that to stop further break-ins, they also take care to remove valuables from their cars at night and confirm that their doors are closed.
