UNLV Area Shooting, 17-Year-Old Allegedly Fires on Teens, LVMPD Reports

 LAS VEGAS, Nev. – In connection with an attempted drug deal that descended into violence earlier this month, a 17-year-old Henderson kid is being charged with attempted murder.

Around 4:16 p.m. on Monday, April 1, Las Vegas police showed up at an apartment complex located in the 4400 block of Escondido Street. When first responders arrived, two teenagers were found there, one with an arm wound and the other with a head wound.

Not long after the cops came, both were taken to Sunrise Hospital.

Investigators discovered that the 17-year-old suspect, Lucas Murphy, was there to sell “wax pens” to multiple other teenagers.

Investigators would learn from one of the youths that they had spoken with Murphy and made a payment arrangement of $70 for three pens. The teenager did, however, also acknowledge that they “did not have the money and planned to steal the pens,” according to the article.

According to the investigation, the adolescent approached Murphy prior to the shooting, holding his phone “so it looked like he had CashApp open to pay,” before taking the pens and taking off. When the adolescent returned to an apartment after hearing “two gunshots” while running, he discovered he had been shot in the arm.

As the young man was tending to his wound inside an apartment, he became aware that one of the other kids was not there. He reported to the investigators that a little while after, the police showed up there and told the teenager they had found a shot individual outside.

After receiving security footage from CCSD, detectives discovered that Murphy had been spotted driving a light blue Ford Mustang around the neighborhood. Police were called to Murphy’s Henderson home after a record check of the car’s license plate revealed that Murphy was trying to conceal the car behind a gate. After leaving his house in a different car, Murphy was caught by the police and put on arrest.

Three counts of attempted murder and one count of firing a handgun into an occupied building are presently being pursued against Murphy. He was freed on Thursday, April 4, subject to electronic monitoring and bond, per court documents.

On July 24, he has another court date scheduled for a preliminary hearing.
