FBI and Chicago Police Face Off With Armed Suspect in Roseland, Ending in Suicide Attempt
On Thursday night, a calm corner in the city’s Roseland neighborhood turned into a confrontation between a gunman and FBI and Chicago police officers.
Police asked a neighbor in the 9500 block of South Vernon Avenue to flee with her family. “He stood up and sat down, both with a gun to his head. Tanya Brewer stated, “He took his clothes off with a gun to his head.”
Another neighbor overheard someone attempting to open his door. Then cops arrived and escorted him away from the area.
According to Austin Peña, he and his wife were on the floor when they witnessed police drawing their firearms and a man holding a gun to his head.
Nine hours into the standoff, neighbors heard a single gunshot.
According to ABC7, the man shot himself, and authorities responded with aid. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was wanted for shooting his ex-girlfriend and two of her children in Matteson on Saturday, May 18. The woman had obtained an order of protection against him, citing domestic abuse.
When confronted by cops on Thursday night, he allegedly displayed a firearm, resulting in a standoff that lasted through the night and into Friday morning. The standoff disturbed neighbors’ life in this area of Roseland, but they are grateful that no one else was injured.
“It’s a sad day that someone has reached that stage. “Wherever he was, it wasn’t a good place,” Brewer added.
“That’s pretty scary to have someone who committed that type of crime so close to you and your kids, so that was a scary situation,” a different neighbor commented.
