Fundraiser Scheduled to Aid Monroe’s King in Cancer Fight
MONROE—Recently, while walking her dog in her neighborhood, Deena King received an envelope from a neighbor.
The woman informed King, “My grandchildren went to high school with your son, Aidan, and this is for your family.”
A donation for Aidan, 21, who is fighting Stage 4 metastasized acral melanoma, a rare form of cancer, was found inside the package.

King remarked, “I don’t see that neighbor very often, so to get that support was just incredible.” Though it makes me cry to talk about it, the community’s support has been one good thing that has come out of it. With everything going on in the world, it is comforting to know that there are still decent people out there, and the outpouring of support has been incredible.

In addition to selling food and beverages, former defensive lineman Jay Alford of the New York Giants will sign autographs and take pictures for $25. All proceeds go toward supporting the King family’s medical and travel needs.
After receiving a diagnosis of metastasized acral melanoma over two years ago, Aidan King has endured numerous arduous therapies. Unfortunately, the cancer proceeded to his brain, and he had brain surgery to remove a tumor last month. Aidan has persevered in his optimism despite hardship, motivating everyone around him with his “Aidan Attitude.”
Darwin Bennett, one of the event organizers, said of Aidan, “He played football with my son in high school and is like another son to me.”
“Learning that such a positive young man had cancer was shocking. However, Aidan never fails to smile, which is incredibly motivating. It minimizes whatever issues I might be having.
