Hate Crime Charges! Jesse Allen Lindsey Indicted for Attack on Asian American Woman
A federal grand jury indicted Jesse Allen Lindsey, 37, on hate crime charges after he reportedly assaulted an Asian American lady in Culver City while hurling racist obscenities. Lindsey, who is presently in state jail for an unrelated conviction, was charged with one count of hate crime, a felony punishable by up to ten years in federal prison.
United States Attorney Martin Estrada condemned the incident. “Hate-fueled violence has no place in our society,” Estrada declared. “We live in one of the most varied sections of the country, and this diversity gives us strength. Our community will remain unified in opposing hatred, and my office will not hesitate to investigate and prosecute individuals who injure others due to hate.”

Krysti Hawkins, Acting Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, emphasized the victim’s innocence. “The victim in this case was simply going about her business when she was verbally and physically assaulted based solely on her appearance. The FBI is committed to protecting civil rights in the United States and will hold accountable anyone who is so motivated by hatred that they target innocent persons based on their race.”
According to the indictment, the event took place at about 1 a.m. on June 14, 2021. The victim was walking to work in Culver City when Lindsey, a white man, approached her and asked for a lighter or cigarette. Lindsey allegedly followed her after she claimed not to smoke, calling her a “Korean” and shouting racial obscenities. According to surveillance evidence, Lindsey yelled at the victim, punched her in the head, and continued to scream racial obscenities while she lay injured on the street.
The victim was hospitalized and required around 11 stitches. According to the indictment, she had head and ear injuries, was unable to work for a month, and suffered from chronic discomfort for a year.

In collaboration with the FBI, we are not only seeking justice for the innocent victim in this case but also emphasizing that such horrible crimes will not be accepted in our communities.”
Lindsey is likely to appear in federal court in the coming weeks. The matter is being investigated by the FBI, with major cooperation from the Culver City Police Department. Lindsey Greer Dotson, an Assistant United States Attorney, is prosecuting.
An indictment is only an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
