Insurance Fraud: Charlotte Woman Taken into Custody for Filing False Claim, Officials Announce

Charlotte, North Carolina —

Mike Causey, the commissioner of insurance for North Carolina, reported that a woman from Charlotte had been arrested on suspicion of filing fraudulent insurance claims.

The 22-year-old Diamon Phoenix was accused of insurance fraud and trying to get property through deception. Those are two felonies in total.

Phoenix allegedly attempted to obtain money from State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. by feigning a homeowners’ insurance claim, claiming that her gun had been taken. This was revealed by special agents.

She filed the claim in April, based on the arrest warrants.

A written commitment to appear in Onslow County District Court on June 17 was used to free Phoenix after her arrest on June 6.
