Louisiana Man Sentenced to Physical Castration for Teen Rape Conviction

Livingston Parish, LA.- A Louisiana man convicted of raping a teenage girl will be physically castrated as part of his sentencing, which includes 50 years in jail.

Glenn Sullivan Sr., 54, pled guilty on April 17 to four charges of second-degree rape, according to District Attorney Scott Perrilloux’s office.

Authorities began investigating Sullivan in July 2022, after a young woman told the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office that Sullivan had raped her several times when she was 14.

According to a news statement issued by Perrilloux’s office on April 22, Sullivan also groomed the victim and “used threats of violence against her and her family” to keep her from coming forward.

“So many of these types of cases go unreported because of fear,” stated the district attorney. “The strength it must have taken for this young woman to tell the truth in the face of threats and adversity is truly incredible.” The victim became pregnant as a result of the rapes, and a DNA test revealed that Sullivan was the child’s father, prosecutors claimed.

“Sex crimes against juveniles are the most malicious crimes that we prosecute,” Assistant District Attorney Brad Cascio stated. “I intend on using every tool the legislature is willing to give us, including physical castration, to seek justice for the children in our community.”

Louisiana passed legislation in 2008 that allows the state to chemically castrate persons who have been convicted of certain sex crimes. Chemical castration is the use of hormone medicines to suppress a person’s libido and sexual impulses. Offenders who offer their free agreement can also be castrated physically or surgically under the law.
