Marion County Man Arrested for Crimes Linked to New Mexico Officer and Florence Paramedic Deaths

MARION COUNTY, S.C. – According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a guy from Mullins was taken into custody in connection with crimes that were committed with the individual who is accused of being responsible for the deaths of a New Mexico police officer and a paramedic from Florence County.

There are five counts of felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition along with the charges of burglary in the first degree, grand larceny, conspiracy, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and five counts of burglary in the first degree. Joshua Antwain Johnson is thirty years old.

After Jaremy Smith reportedly kidnapped and murdered Phonesia Machado-Fore, a paramedic, wife, and mother, Johnson joined Jaremy Smith. This information comes from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputies stated that Johnson was not engaged in the death of Machado-Fore; nevertheless, they stated that Johnson was involved with Smith after the occurrence, and the two of them continued their spree of criminal behavior in Marion County. According to the sheriff’s office, both defendants then traveled across the country in the direction of New Mexico shortly after that.

It has been stated that Smith abandoned Johnson at a convenience shop in Texas while he was on the road. According to the authorities, Smith is believed to have continued his journey to New Mexico, where he is responsible for the death of New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare.

At the moment, Smith is being held in detention in New Mexico, awaiting his trial. On Wednesday, Johnson was taken into custody without any complications. After some time has passed, the Circuit Court will decide how much his bond will be.
