Maryland Men Accused In Pennsylvania Vehicle Thefts, One Suspect Flees In Stolen Car
DEBARYLIFE – Police officers chasing down two Maryland males suspected of repeated vehicle thefts early on Thursday caused chaos in New Freedom, Pennsylvania. Following the deployment of a dog and drone to aid in the search, a Southern Regional Police officer opened fire, escalating the pursuit. No injuries were reported from the event, according to the York Daily Record.
Christian Wright of Pasadena, Maryland, and Marquis Brown of Stoney Beach, Maryland, both 19 years old, were named as suspects by officials. They were accused of stealing, receiving stolen items, loitering or prowling at night, and eluding arrest or detention on foot.
For his escape and evasion, Brown is also subject to an additional charge. Both of them were granted $50,000 bail and were admitted to York County Prison.
When suspicious behavior connected to car break-ins was reported, the problem started about 2:25 a.m. Following the call, which was answered by Southern Regional Police, a stolen car was found crashed, and a foot pursuit began. A short distance from the scene, another stolen car was discovered soon after, according to ABC27.
Dramatically, one of the suspects, who was thereafter in another car, was confronted by an officer during the nocturnal encounter. The police retrieved the car the suspect left behind after they were told to get out of the car.

As reported by the York Daily Record, a police statement stated that “the officer from Southern Regional Police Department drew and fired his duty weapon during this incident.”
Further inquiries have suggested that Wright and Brown may be involved in a bigger stealing ring that is affecting Southern York County, pointing to the possibility of a more criminal component.
May 16 is the day of both men’s preliminary hearing, which raises questions about the extent of their alleged criminal activity that has not yet been fully disclosed (MU News). The investigation is still ongoing, with several law enforcement organizations trying to piece together the scope of the alleged criminal spree.
