Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell Apprehended After Alleged Burglary Attempt, See Next!

DEBARYLIFE – A state senator from Minnesota was taken into custody on Monday, according to authorities, on suspicion of first-degree burglary.

Media outlets such as CBS News and KMSP-TV were informed by Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steve Todd that Democratic Sen. Nicole Mitchell was taken into custody after being discovered inside a residence in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, some four hours northwest of Woodbury, the district she represents.

Although she hasn’t been formally charged with a crime yet, 49-year-old Mitchell was arrested on Monday and detained at Becker County Jail, according to authorities.

The Mitchell family has been contacted by USA TODAY for a statement.

Documents reveal that Mitchell’s late father was a resident of the block.
Around 4:45 in the morning. Officers were called at 4:45 a.m. to a homeowner’s report of a break-in. Todd informed media outlets on Monday. Officers discovered Mitchell, a woman they later identified as the resident, inside the house when they arrived.

If charges are brought, it will be up to the Becker County Attorney’s Office to decide.

Mitchell’s stepmother and her late father were residents of the block where the alleged burglary took place in 2022, according to county property tax records, the Star Tribune said.

Currently serving her first term, Mitchell was elected in 2022. She was an Air National Guard commander in addition to her former employment as a TV meteorologist.

While they were “aware of the situation,” the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Caucus declined to comment, according to CBS News.

Minority Leader of the Republican Senate Mark Johnson said to CBS News in a statement that “the public expects legislators to meet a high standard of conduct.” “As information comes out, we expect the consequences to meet the actions, both in the court of law and in her role at the Legislature.”
