Potomac River Recovery: Body Recovered, Believed to Be Missing Swimmer from VA to MD

DEBARYLIFE – Two males were allegedly trying to swim from Virginia to Maryland on Friday night, but only one of them made it. As a result, searches for the swimmer started.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer, “This all started probably on Friday when we had a report of a couple of swimmers that attempted to swim from Virginia to Maryland, one became distressed and went underwater and has been missing ever since presumed to be drowned.”

Authorities claim that on Sunday, sonar-equipped search crews discovered a body wedged between rocks beneath the water.

On Monday morning, as they prepared to retrieve the body, a local kayaker discovered another body in the water, which has since been recovered.

It’s thought to be the swimmer’s body that went missing.

The death is currently being looked into by the Montgomery County Department of Police.
