South Florida Faces Intense Weekend Heat: Officials Call For Caution, What Tips Are?

DEBARYLIFE – All of South Florida is under a heat advisory as of Saturday, and authorities are advising locals to exercise caution.

Until 8 p.m., the advisories are in effect. At 106–110 degrees, the Heat Index reaches its maximum.

The weekend will be filled with heat and humidity. Even before 8 a.m. on Saturday, the temperature felt like it was in the mid-90s. The morning began off in the low 80s.

A few powerful storms may form by Saturday afternoon due to the humid, highly buoyant air and the impending front, particularly in Broward County, where the storm prediction center has identified a level 1, minor risk for severe storms.

The first official heat advisory for South Florida in 2024 was issued on Friday.

On Friday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Miami-Dade was under one advisory. For Monroe County, another was issued through Friday at six o’clock.

The high temperatures persisted over the weekend, and Miami-Dade was once more under a heat advisory on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Miami-Dade County warned citizens in a news release on Saturday to exercise caution while making plans for the weekend because of the extreme heat.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava stated, “We want our residents and visitors to be aware of the potential risks of extreme heat so that we can all take the proper precautions to stay safe and healthy here in Miami-Dade County.”

“If you are working or playing outside this week, I urge all residents to do a Heat Check: find shade, take a break, and drink plenty of water.”

Miami-Dade County further stated that firms who have workers who are exposed to heat are urged to modify work schedules and locations in addition to offering plenty of water to drink during shaded rest intervals.

Tips And Advice on Enduring the Heat

A number of tips are available from the Red Cross and the National Weather Service (NWS) for dealing with hot days and preventing health issues.

  1. If you plan to engage in outdoor activities, the usual advice is to protect yourself from the sun, wear light clothing, and stay hydrated.
