Woman Arrested And Charged With Attempted Murder In Van Wert County

Van Wert — In Van Wert County Common Pleas Court, a Defiance woman who the police said deliberately struck two pedestrians with her car is accused of attempting to kill them.

On May 7, Summer Jones, 34, was arraigned and entered not guilty pleas to two first-degree felonies of attempted murder, two second-degree felonies of felonious assault, two fourth-degree felonies of aggravated assault, and one misdemeanor charge of domestic abuse.

A grand jury’s indictment claimed that on April 4, Jones struck someone with a 2016 Chrysler van in an attempt to “cause or attempt to cause physical harm.”

According to court records, officers were called to a residence in the Van Wert neighborhood’s 300 block of North Race Street after learning that someone had been struck by a car. It was discovered that Jones was the driver of the car that reportedly collided with two people.

One of the accused victims allegedly got a text message on April 4 from a phone number connected to Jones, according to a probable cause document. “There is a special place in hell for home wrecking bitches like you,” the note said in part. Since it’s your last day on this (expletive) earth, let me hear you were at my house with my (expletive) kids one last time.

Court records state that one of the victims received treatment for apparent injuries at a nearby hospital.

Jones was required to post a $100,000 cash or surety bond. Jones will be placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring if the bond is posted. She is not allowed to communicate with the case’s victims.

The date of the pre-trial hearing is set for May 22.
