WOMAN FATALLY ATTACKED BY DOGS in Bolivar, Tennessee; Family Seeks Funeral Funds

According to her family, a 61-year-old woman in Tennessee who was described as the “heart and soul” of her family was fatally mauled by two dogs.

Theresa Rhodes was attacked by the “vicious” animals while on her way to visit a friend in Bolivar, Tenn. on Monday, July 1. Her sister, Shirley Callaway, has described the incident in a GoFundMe campaign that was established to assist in the payment of her funeral expenses.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., the Bolivar Police Department responded to a report of a woman who was hemorrhaging in the streets, according to USA Today. Rhodes was discovered with “extensive injuries” and two canines adjacent to her upon their arrival, according to the outlet. To provide Rhodes with assistance, an officer shot one of the canines, while the other fled the scene. On the same day, Rhodes was transported to a hospital, where she passed away.

The police department published an advisory notice on Facebook, informing residents of the Sycamore Street and Mitchell Street area that one of the “two dangerous dogs” had been apprehended.

“The other is described as having blue-gray coloring and features that resemble those of a pit bull.” “The department requests that you exercise extreme caution when walking in this neighborhood or outdoors.” The message was subsequently updated on Tuesday, July 2, to indicate that both dogs had been officially captured.

Callaway informed WMC-TV that the authorities informed her that her sister attempted to repel the dogs by using an object.

“My sister’s weight was a mere ninety pounds.” For the two canines, she did not engage in any conflict. “They claim that she fought until she was unable to continue,” PEOPLE stated.

Rhodes was a significant figure in the lives of all of her family members. In Rhodes’ GoFundMe campaign, Callaway conveyed that Theresa was not only a mother to two daughters whom she tragically lost to cancer, but also a loving grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin to many.

“Her infectious smile and vibrant personality brought joy to everyone around her,” according to her. “She was the heart and soul of our family, and her loss has left us devastated.”

At the time of this writing, the campaign has exceeded its $11,000 fundraising objective by more than $1,000.
