Amazon Set to Invest $11 Billion In Data Center Near Michigan Border, How Developed!
NEW CARLISLE, IN – According to state and business leaders, Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud computing division, intends to invest $11 billion to construct a data center in northern Indiana, which will generate at least 1,000 new jobs. This news was made public on Thursday.
About 15 miles (24 kilometers) west of South Bend, in the hamlet of New Carlisle, the project is planned by Republican Governor Eric Holcomb, who dubbed it “the largest capital investment announcement in Indiana’s history.”
According to a news release, Holcomb stated, “This major investment solidifies Indiana’s leadership position in the economy of the future and will undoubtedly have a positive ripple effect on the town of New Carlisle, the north central region, and the state of Indiana for years to come.”
A schedule for the data center facility in St. Joseph County, northern Indiana, which borders Michigan, was not included in the announcement from Holcomb’s office or AWS.
However, the Indiana Enterprise Center, which is situated just east of New Carlisle, will host construction “over the next ten years,” according to Carl Baxmeyer, president of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners, who also stated in the news release that it “will be a major employment center for all of northern Indiana.”

According to the press announcement, the AWS data center will house computer servers, networking hardware, data storage devices, and “other forms of technology infrastructure used to power cloud computing capabilities, and generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.”
The data center located in Indiana, according to AWS’s director of economic development Roger Wehner, “will create numerous well-paying job opportunities and tap into the state’s burgeoning tech sector, while contributing significantly to the state’s growing economy.”
According to the statement, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. has promised to grant sales tax exemptions for data centers “for eligible capital investments over a 50-year term” in accordance with the company’s anticipated investment.
According to the press release, the IEDC has also committed to a range of performance-based tax credits to support the AWS data center plans. These credits include headcount-based tax credits worth up to $18.3 million, Hoosier Business Investment tax credits worth up to $55 million, and redevelopment tax credits worth up to $20 million.
According to the press release, AWS would contribute up to $7 million to help improvements to the road infrastructure along State Road 2, which encircles the company’s proposed data center.
