Breaking News: DC Woman Faces Charges of Kidnapping and Murder After Fatal Carjacking Crash, Did Double Attack Happen?

After being accused of stealing an SUV outside MedStar Washington Hospital on Monday, June 3, and then crashing it, which resulted in the death of the passenger inside, Kayla Brown, 22, of Southeast D.C., appeared in court on Tuesday, June 4, for her arraignment hearing.
New images and court documents were made public on Tuesday. Investigators claimed to have footage of Brown at the Washington Hospital Center before she got into the SUV, walked away, and was taken into custody following the collision.
This series of events started, per court filings, at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Monday, when Brown’s home was visited by MPD police following a 911 caller who was shouting and pleading for assistance before hanging up. Brown’s parents reported to the police that she had been acting strangely for the previous few days.
Brown was transported to the Washington Hospital Center via ambulance in less than sixty minutes. Officers concluded the medics didn’t require any additional assistance and left.
Just after 1:00 p.m., according to D.C. police, Brown entered a white Mazda SUV that was parked outside the hospital in the 100 block of Irving Street, Northwest, according to 7News. According to authorities, Brown left with Northeast resident Leslie Gaines, 55, in the passenger seat.
When Brown got into the car and drove off, the police said that Gaines’ daughter had initially stepped out of the car to fetch her mother a wheelchair at the hospital.
Police claim that at approximately 1:30 p.m., Brown smashed the SUV into the U.S. Attorney’s Office building at 6th and D Streets, Northwest.

Gaines was brought to a nearby hospital and later declared deceased, according to the police.
Brown faced charges of carjacking, kidnapping, and criminal homicide.
7News posed a series of inquiries on security and safety via email to MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
While declining to respond to those inquiries, a spokesman issued the following statement:
“The family of the victim of this awful incident is in our thoughts and prayers. To help with their investigation, we are collaborating closely with the Metropolitan Police Department.”
Brown is being held without bond, and on Friday, June 7 at 9:30 a.m., there will be a preliminary hearing.
Brown’s father was contacted by 7News, but he denied an interview. Although he acknowledged that his daughter had never done anything similar before, he expressed surprise at her condition when she was brought away by ambulance.
How Gaines passed away is still a mystery.
