A 6-year-old girl from New Jersey died after being penetrated by a badminton racket while on vacation with her family in Maine.

Lucy Morgan was playing badminton with her siblings at their house in Limerick last Saturday when she was seriously hurt by the racket.

“We had an amazing lake cottage in Maine and were simply enjoying life together on our last full day,” he stated.

“The children decided to play badminton in the front yard. Bethany (Lucy’s mother) and I were relaxing in the back when we heard screams.” She was transferred to the hospital, but died of her injuries four days later.

According to police, the youngster was breathing but unconscious as she was brought to the hospital and airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Mr Morgan stated that doctors warned the family she had a “very slim chance” of recovering.

“Upon arrival she went right to the operating room where they removed part of her skull to relieve pressure and deal with her injury,” stated the doctor.

“Given the initial trauma that brought about the global hypoxic brain injury she endured with the severity of the swelling, it was almost certain that she had endured brain death,” said Morgan.

“After significant thorough testing and even more repeated tests to be certain, brain death was declared…and her heart stopped beating.”Our hearts ache with incomprehensible sorrow. I have a lot of scattered thoughts and recollections.

A GoFundMe page created to help the family has raised more than $100,000.

Jesse Morgan, a pastor at Green Pond Bible Chapel in New Jersey, said her siblings have been crushed.

“[Siblings] Silas and Shiloh wondered how we’d ever be happy again. We just stood on the front steps crying for a bit before I summoned the confidence to open the door,” he explained.

“We again collapsed in a pile on the kitchen floor crying harder as a family than we ever have.” Lucy Morgan’s funeral is scheduled for June 15 at her father’s church.
