Kansas Prison Shock: Inmate Convicted of Drug, Escape Charges Found Unresponsive

HUTCHINSON, Kan.- Recently, an inmate in Kansas who was serving time for a drug and escape conviction was discovered comatose in his cell.

Scott E. Wood, 49, an inmate at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, was discovered unresponsive in his cell earlier that afternoon, according to an announcement made by the Kansas Department of Corrections on Friday, May 10.

According to the staff, they started taking measures to save lives right away and continued doing so until emergency medical personnel came. Wood was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the medical staff that attended to him.

In a statement, KDOC stated that the cause of Wood’s death is still unknown until the findings of an independent autopsy have been analyzed. When a resident passes away while under the care of the organization, the agency and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation immediately initiate an investigation into the death. The investigation into Wood is still ongoing.

According to the agency, Wood had been serving a term of fifty months to four years for narcotics possession and aggravated escape, both of which were done in Sedgwick County, Kansas.
