Mabank Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Burglary and Theft in Athens, Texas

ATHENS, Texas – On Monday, a guy from Mabank was sentenced to prison for the crimes of burglary and theft that he engaged in.

In the court of the 392nd District Judge Scott McKee, Tray Daniel Walters was found guilty of burglary of a dwelling and theft of property, and he was sentenced to 15 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for each of these charges. Additionally, he was sentenced to ten years for each of these offenses. In each of the cases, he was also required to make restitution payments.

Additionally, on June 26, 2023, an officer from the Mabank Police Department arrived at S. Andrea Drive in response to a theft that had taken place, as stated by Assistant District Attorney Jessica Bargmann. The officer had a conversation with the victim, who stated that a male had entered her garage and taken an EGO Power+ leaf blower. A video of the theft that was captured by a Ring camera was made available to the officer. She was able to determine that Walters was the individual responsible for the crime.

There was also a theft that occurred on June 20, 2023, and the Gun Barrel City Police Department was called to the scene. The victim stated that two leaf blowers failed to show up. A video surveillance was given by the victim, which showed a man jumping a fence and removing two leaf blowers from the back patio of his property. Through the efforts of a Mabank Police Department officer, the suspect was positively identified as Walters.

According to the District Attorney’s office, Walters has a fairly extensive criminal history, which includes a past prison sentence for burglary of habitation as well as prior convictions for stealing, avoiding arrest, and possession of a prohibited substance. In addition, he was on parole. The judicial records of Henderson County indicate that his arrests extend back to the year 2011.
