Ohio Committee Greenlights Recreational Marijuana Sales To Start Next Month
DEBARYLIFE – The Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) will be able to start awarding dual licences next month, enabling currently operating medical marijuana dispensaries to also sell to recreational customers (i.e., anyone 21 and older) thanks to regulatory changes that were approved by the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) today.
June 7 is the deadline for dual licence applications to be open and public, according to the approved guidelines.
Declaring that “we look forward to watching these rules go into effect in a couple of weeks,” state representative Jamie Callender (R), vice chair of the JCARR, commended the DCC “for doing this timely and to help move forward the will of the voters.”

The head of Ohio’s Department of Cannabis Control’s rulemaking committee foresaw this development last month, stating that recreational marijuana sales would start as early as June and would happen “certainly before July 4th weekend.”
Issue 2 permits those 21 years of age and older to lawfully possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and up to 15 grammes of marijuana concentrates. It was approved by voters last year by a margin of 57% to 43%.
For personal use, they are also permitted to grow up to six marijuana plants in a private home. The nascent marijuana sector is subject to regulation and licencing by the Division of Cannabis Control.
Up to 350 marijuana business licences may be issued by the agency, though at least 50 must be issued.
