DC Police Launch Second Wave of Drug Free Zones in Northwest and Southeast Districts
WASHINGTON: On Wednesday, two new Drug-Free Zones will be implemented by D.C. police in portions of northwest and southeast Washington.
The following places will be subject to enforcement starting on Wednesday, April 3 at 8 a.m. and lasting until Monday, April 8 at 7:59 a.m.

From 5055 Benning Road in the Southeast to the intersection of Southern Avenue and Benning Road in the Southeast
Southeast’s Southern Avenue, 5000 block
Southeast, -800 block of 51st Street
– 4675 and the 5000 block of Southeast H Street
-West Alley, Southeast, 5000 Block of Benning Road
Southeast’s Hillside Road, 4660–4666
Notifications of these zones were sent out overnight, according to the police, and signs were put up early on Tuesday morning. Each block will be designated by an officer using tape, barriers, or other means. There will be signs up explaining the regulations and the duration of the zone.
It is against the rules for two or more people to get together to engage in illicit drug activity. If you don’t disperse, you risk being arrested, fined $300, and/or serving 180 days in jail.
Three people were taken into custody at the end of the city’s second round of Drug-Free Zones in March.
